Leapingfish Safety benefits from Kevin Slaney's 21 years experience in Health and Safety including 8 years as a Senior Consultant for a major global consultancy and 9 years HSQE safety management in construction for a Principal Contractor. He also had a year in general HSE small business and sole trader construction H&S work and 3 years in chemical (COSHH) and mechanical process safety. Kevin has recently been doing some work involving high-rise façade remediation. 

Kevin has extensive experience as a Principal Designer on numerous large and very large projects, ranging from £1m to £500m. He has taken part in the construction and upgrade of over 50 schools, municipal buildings, financial sector premises, energy projects, housing, laboratories, hotel, leisure centres, commercial offices, hospitals, supermarkets, major college and university projects. He has specialist knowledge of schools design-safety work including SEN premises and hydrotherapy pools.

Kevin works closely with the client, architectural, structural, MEP and contractor team to ensure effective Design Risk Assessment and collaborative risk workshops. His numerous Principal Designer roles have included a RIBA award-winning Mosque, a RIBA awarded housing project and a RIBA awarded community centre. He has done everything from a risk assessment for a self-employed plasterer to acting as Principal Designer for several large new builds on a £500 million project with 2500 workers on site daily.


Kevin is 12 years Chartered Member of IOSH with a Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health, both NEBOSH Construction and General Qualifications, and the CSCS Construction Health & Safety Manager's black card. 

With highly competitive rates, CRB & Security clearances, and professional insurances, quotations are available on application. I can work with you at an invoiced freelance rate, or for you  - short-term part-time temporary employments in your organisation for situations such as maternity cover or where the arrangement is mutually beneficial such as for high insurance requirements or client preference.

About Kevin

Kevin has taken a keen interest in Architecture since 1979 and has travelled extensively throughout Europe, in that time visiting exceptional buildings in over 30 countries. He is a member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and was privileged to work as a Principal Designer on several Stirling Prize nationally shortlisted projects and regional prizewinners.

Kevin also has in interest in radio wave propagation in space applications and belongs to several radio organisations including the RSGB. He occasionally participates in NASA Engineering Safety Center events.

A former horseman, Tango dancer, Tai Chi and Yoga practitioner, Kevin now enjoys professional and personal interest learning including safety and risk, AI, and Biblical studies with The Open University, Harvard University, Yale University, Cambridge University Library, BBC Maestro with former US Secret Service agent Evy Poumpouras and business dragon Peter Jones, Microsoft, IOSH, Helsinki University, Leiden University, and Christian business influencers counting Stefanie Gass, Jennifer Allwood and Gabe Cox.

Kevin was a qualified Professional photographer for 14 years working on projects such as the Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana for Sir Patrick Lichfield, the Moon landing anniversary for NASA and the Voyager images of Jupiter and Saturn for JPL. 

He is married to Madeleine and they sponsor four children in Africa. He has taken a keen interest in fashion all his life, writing weekly articles and publishing photography under various pen names in several fashion forums.

Kevin is a Licenced Radio Amateur (Callsign M7KVS) and can undertake Radio EMF Risk Assessments in compliance with ICNIRP and Ofcom requirements.

Kevin originally trained as an artist and has six years experience successfully creating commercial graphic design - logos, stationery, murals, fonts and signs. He also runs Leapingfish's sister business, Lemon Fresh Graphics Studio.
